OG&E SmartHours Review
This is my review on how I save with OG&E SmartHours review. I signed up last year for this program. I got a FREE Thermostat, that I used to adjust my daily schedule for electricity usage, to help better save during the HOT summer months. Once it was set, I was ready to start saving immediately. Friends thought I was crazy, as the higher price per kwh was from 2 pm – 7 pm (the hottest part of the day) which was easier to reduce my electricity usage during those hours, then you would think. However, the price on the non-peak was a low $0.05 kwh, and most days when the weather was not to hot my price was $0.09 – $0.22 kwh. There was only a few times, it was in critical $0.44 kwh (I definitely was super careful during the peak hours when it was that high!)
Below I will share my daily routines:
1. Run the dishwasher in the evening, before bed.
2. Laundry, I would get this done in the morning. Sometimes, I would wait for the weekend. As, I would have the $0.05 Kwh all day.
3. Run AC, before 2 pm and get the home nice and cool. Which I would run the AC pretty cool at night as well. Most days, if it wasn’t in the upper 90’s the house stayed pretty cool until around 5pm. Then, I would sometime end up turning the AC on to cool the house down. Unless, the price of kwh was really HIGH! (Which I was reminded, on my thermostat for the price of the day)
4. Weekends and holidays, we could use as much electricity as we wanted. It was a free for all. But we still didn’t abuse our usage.
I could also monitor my usage on line, and see how much my electricity was going to cost per day. I have to admit, I did like to checkout my daily stats online to see how much electricity I was using throughout the day.
SmartHours program goes from June – September.
Since joining OG&E SmartHours, I have saved a ton of money. This year, I have saved $100 over last year. However, I was a Smart Hour user last year. In 2011, my highest bill was in the $400, and this year my highest bill was $278. For more tips, be sure to read How to Save Money on Electricity Usage.
