Extreme Couponing Not Reality

Here is my 2 cents on the TLC show’s Extreme Couponing reality show. So, you have a coupon. Now what? I do agree that buying multiples is a good idea. However, most stores allow limits on items you can purchase with coupons. I know our Homeland here in Oklahoma will only allow 1 like coupon per transaction. Now that is alot of going back and forth to reach an extreme level of product. Plus, you need the coupons. For example, the first lady in the show spent $70 on her coupons. She paid over $100 for her items she bought. She spent $170 on items to stockpile, which she clearly did not need just to get a “high” off of shopping. So did she really save any money? It’s like saying I got these jeans on sale, they were only $19 (but you have 5 pair in your closet) so did you really save any money.

Now the Krazy lady, I did not call her that, she calls herself that and she was taking her children in dumpsters to get coupons! I sure hope that was for national TV ratings! On the plus side, she was extremely organized with her items and she did not buy as much junk as the first lady. But wonder, does she give back to her community by using her talents to bless others. Because clearly, who needs that much laundry soap. There will be another deal down the road.

Coupon Diva, she critiqued others shopping as they did not have coupons. Did she share coupons in the store with others? I love to share coupons in the store. I share $5/$25 coupons for Homeland while I am shopping! Love the look on peoples faces when I give it to them. I like to give them to people who have coupons in hand, trying to do the best they can with their rescources! Love that.

Nathan, well he is an interesting character. I did “hear” he told the store he shops at what he was doing and they preordered him the products he was going to buy. Atleast all those boxes of cereal. Then when he had the trailer full, loved how he was going to be able to bless his community with Cereal. I would hope he was blessing them with other health and beauty supplies because really who needs that much!
What did you think of the show?

i love coupons and consider it my therapy to go browse and get good wallmart deals. Never to this extend, of course. Oh well, we all have different priorities

I was blown away by the amount of candy that lady bought!! And the toothbrushes that guy bought!!! I agree he was giving to his church but think about it!!! Was there enough for other customers on any of the 4 stories? That’s what gets me when there is a good sale and to get to the store and someone has cleared the shelves!! Believe me I love to coupon but I’m gonna make sure that I don’t take everything.. But also I wish we had a store that you didn’t have to make a bunch of trips to be able to get some good stuff…We need another good double coupon store here in Oklahoma!!!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE The Krazy Coupon Lady, I follow her blog and her Facebook religiously… I agree with the dumpster diving thing, a bit extreme…but, to answer your question about giving back. She posted on her blog recently about taking a bunch of her stock pile to a local women’s shelter and she also randomly allows people to come “shop” her stock pile. The thing that was going through my mind during her shopping trip was how in the world does she shop like that with her son?! lol. I would never be able to concentrate enough to do that if my 3 year old little boy were with me… :)

That is good to know that she does give back. You can’t believe everything you see on TV wish she would have not done the dumpster diving thing on National TV though!

Great post! I agree with what you are saying. Most stores will not allow you to use that many coupons in a single transaction.
For me, it isn’t worth my time to buy products I don’t really need. I like to have a stockpile, but I also want my kids to be able to put their bikes in the garage, lol!

The “Krazy” lady does give back–visit her blog and find out. I think what she’s doing is awesome, and while some may take it way too far, not everyone does.

The show was very interesting. The first lady seemed like she belonged on an episode of “Hoarders” and her husband wasn’t so thrilled about having to dedicate space to her constant purchases. I liked the Krazy Lady and her organization of the stockpiling. It was as if she had her own store in her home. Very cool. I LOVED the Couppon Diva who got in excercise as she got her coupons lol. She educates others about saving which is always a plus in my book. I wasn’t too impressed with Nathan. He seems very similar to the first lady on the show – too much stuff becomes junk. He does it for a high. I like that he does donate but he still has a lot of junk stockpiled items in his home. How much of that will actually be used before it expires?!

I think the show was a little over the top, but also showed the power of coupons.

I was exhausted watching them :D I can never call myself a “exteme couponer” again :)

I had to watch a second time because I thought I’d missed something. In particular, how you get over $1,000 worth of groceries for under $60!! OK, so the second time around I hear to shop the sales and to go to stores that have double or triple coupon offers. Here’s my take: Let’s say the pasta is on sale 5 for $10. I have a coupon for a $1.00 off if I buy 5. My stores limit their triple coupons to a dollar, which means my $1 coupon is still worth only $1!! So, my pasta will cost me $9.00. If my store allowed me to buy 200 boxes (which it doesn’t – there is a limit) then even if I had 40 coupons, it would still cost me $360!! I don’t get it. Please enlighten me.
