Save money at home by weekly menu planning.  I always have best intentions to menu plan, and some way somehow I always seem to fail. Well last week, I menu planned. If you are like me, and stock up on sales, then you are not at a loss for food, but a loss for what to make.  So, here are some tips to make menu planning easy.

See what you have to work with.

1. What Meats, Chicken, Steak, Roast or other protein do you have in your freezer/fridge?

2. Pantry items, what do you already have? Spices, soups, veggies, fruits and more?

3. What is on sale at the store this week? Check your fresh veggies and fruit at store, and then make that whats for dinner. Always try to shop the stores sale items.Cook what is on sale.

4. If you are super organized. You can even inventory your stockpile, and freezer.  Then you know what is available. (As for me, well haven’t quite made it to this step)

5. Make ahead meals?

What do you think of precooking ground beef?  I am not a fan of cooking ground beef and then freezing it, I always find it to taste weird. Could be just me, because tons of make ahead mama’s do this. I just find it just as well to thaw raw meat, and then cook it.

Once you build a good stockpile base, you can possibly save trips to the store, (which you can end up buying items you don’t need) unless you are shopping deals of course or you are shopping for your produce.

Use your family favorite foods,  and then search online for a new recipe to try using those food items that are your families favorites.

When you Menu plan, you don’t have to be crazy and follow the exact day that you plan for that meal, you can switch your meals from one day to the next. This saves the oh no, whats for dinner dilemma. Because if you are like me, and don’t always have a plan, then it is like oh no what am I going to make, and 50% of them time my boys aren’t any help of giving me ideas on what to cook.
