Great Salt Plains Interesting Adventure

So we all hop in the SUV, water, snacks, movies, and more for our big adventure to The Great Salt Plains.I made sure to grab my friend and her kids for this roadtrip and off we went. On our way, "I have to go to the bathroom" was heard, and guess what, there was a Dairy Queen in sight, and so we had a quick bathroom break and got us some DQ Blizzards. According to the DQ sight earlier in the week, there was only one DQ in Oklahoma, well come to find out there are quite a few. So all you DQ fans, can head up I- 35 North near Ponca City and you will find a DQ.

So hop back in and encounter the first mistake... setting Onstar Navigation to The Great Salt Plains park. This took us to the lake, not the crystal digging adventure. With a little help of a park Ranger, we were on our way, only to get a little turned around yet again in the middle of dirt roads, corn fields and some wheat fields. Only a few comment heard from the back seat, "Are we lost?" and "Are we there yet?" but over all we had a patient bunch of kids. I was beginning to think we were in the movie "Twister". I had to take a glimpse of the Oklahoma Sky to make sure there were no storm cloud's, as today's adventure did not have chasing tornadoes in the plan. The Teen Boys even behaved themselves for the most part, and when we got to the Salt Plains, they were the first to run out and begin digging.

So, when we get there to the Salt Plains, I do have to say it was very eerie. We were 1 of 3 vehicles on the premises. No lake to hang out by, like I thought. Just diggin' em holes. That is what I felt like, digging those holes.
Here are some helpful hints:

1. Bring lots of water jugs for the digging, no place to refill them with new water, so bring LOTS!
2. Sunglasses, you know how bright snow is? Well imagine acres full of salt!
3. Sunscreen, unless you are wanting some serious sunburns
4. Digging tools, like a large garden shovel and some small spades shovels
5. Lots of patience, I did not find crystals in my first holes I dug.
6. Clean clothes for when you are done, a bucket to rinse off your shoes when done, the salt will be everywhere!
7. Look/ Feel the side walls of the holes when dug to see if you can feel or see crystals. Some of them will be in clumps and are actually pretty cool.
8. Follow highway 64 west, until you see a sign saying Crystal Digging turn and then follow dirt road 3 miles, then turn and go one more mile to digging site. Just a simple hint.

I think that is all I can come up with.. If you decide to go to Jet, Oklahoma have fun and be prepared for an adventure!

Where Have I been?

Oh gosh, this summer baseball schedule is incredible. This past weekend, I must have been at the Baseball Park for over 40 hours... I was the concession stand worker, and when it was my shift, I even got to be the grill master. Our Baseball club has quite a menu. Hamburgers, chicken, sausages, taco nachos, and more! So while all you deal hunters where out shopping, or hanging out in the AC I was sweating in the stands... "Take me out to the Ball Game.. "
I will hopefully be posting soon... and of course will keep you all posted on the new Homeland Ad. Can't wait to see what is in the ad for next week. I am going to try to make it to Homeland tomorrow for a few items and say "hi" to my friends while I am there!

Oklahoma Floods, Local Blogger @ConsumerQueen Home Floods

My dear friend, Melissa known as the "Consumer Queen" to her blogging community, home she just moved into is now in need of major repairs. Her mother recently moved into the family home as well. So now her home, appliances, TV, clothing, food, and sentimental items that are non-replaceable are all gone. With no flood insurance it is going to take time and money to get this mess all cleaned up!

But the good news is that they are safe, have great family support, and the support from her blogging friends and online community that she is apart of!

You can read more about the flood, and her story at consumerqueen.com and read the sweet post, that Monica wrote on Mommy Brain Reports. Amy, another local blogger is also working on donations from companies to help fill Melissas home back up with products! Update on HCG Weightloss Journey

Have you been wondering how I am doing? I need to tell ya, the last round I did when hubby did the diet with me, well I ended up gaining 10 pounds during the maintenance phase, you know why? Well because I was a rule breaker, and ate carbs, ice cream, m&m's and more junk then good for you healthy foods. So.. beware follow phase 3 correctly, like if you gain more then 2 pounds do a "steak day" or no carbs, to get back down to your lowest weight after phase 2. So guess what I had to do, go back on the stinkin' diet again. Started last week on Monday, back down to 151 pounds which is only 2 pounds away from my phase 2 ending weight from the last round I did. So, you know what I am going to do now when I go on phase 3... yes, follow the rules. Stay away from carbs. I do not want to do this diet again, and would like to maintain a healthy 135. So, I confess to you all so you all can succeed and are in the know of what can happen during this diet!

Oh, and how did my super husband do? Yep, great. He lost 12 pounds on his maintenance phase and continues to maintain his weight and lose a bit as well.

Oklahoma Weather FLOODING in the City

The flooding in Oklahoma is so bad right now, apparently my cousin in Italy is getting to see live footage from Oklahoma City on Fox News! I woke up to storms at around 4 am this morning and went to sleep with my little one, he hates bad weather! When we awoke, I looked outside and saw all the water in my front yard ravine. Part of the neighborhood is blocked because the small creek that is normally only about an inch or two of water has now flooded the neighborhood road!

So, be safe everyone in Oklahoma. Don't drive in rushing water. There are so many areas effected. Be careful and prayers welcome. We have been hit pretty hard this year with bad weather!

What to Do in Oklahoma This Summer

Humm.. if you are not playing summer league Baseball everyday this summer, Like ME, then you may have some time to check these fun inexpensive summer  fun ideas out!

OKC ZOO in June- (there are 3 Tuesdays left) "Wild Tuesdays Storytime Safaris are back at the Oklahoma City Zoo! Children ages 11 and under will enjoy fascinating stories, a meet-and-greet with a Zoo keeper or naturalist, a craft activity and a free juice drink. Story time sessions take place at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. at Grandma’s Porch in the new Children’s Zoo and are hosted by volunteers from the Junior League of Oklahoma City." quoted from  www.okczoo.com


OKC ZOO- Beginning July 7,  Wednesdays in the month of  July and August, guests can get a  special retro rate pricing of $1 for Zoo admission! There will also be $1 rides and concession specials, in the past it was cheap hot dogs, pop corn and pop! Martin Nature Park- FREE Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Located in the Middle of the city, near Mercy Hospital off Memorial Rd. Check out more details at there website. GO HERE.
So, if you have never been, it is quite a nature park. Water shoes would be good to bring so you can walk in the creek and water area. There are tons of fish and turtles to feed in the water as well. You can bring "fish food" like dog or cat food to feed them. Or you can buy food at the food dispensers for .25 (I think)

Sam Noble Museum- (in Norman) FREE days in June. Saturday June 12 and Saturday June 26. Go here to  Sam Noble Museum for more details! I have never been, but here it is truly amazing. OU students and Children under 5 free all the time! Regular price $5 adults and $3 for Children up to 17 years of age. Not a bad price.

Edmond Historical Muesum- Located on Boulavard around 9th street? Near the old "Rocket Ship Park" FREE, and they have a fun Childrens area with art area, Jail, Grocery Store, home and Train area (wooden trains like Brio and Thomas) Can't remember when they are closed. I think it may be on Mondays. Not sure though.

Then there are your regular Parks and activities. The only bad thing is that the equipment gets so HOT so you have to go early or late.

Garden is Growing.. You want to See?

Hi, thought I would share a few pics on my veggie garden. It is doing really well, very excited to have some tomatoes soon, we have tons of green ones right now. We even planted cantalope, hopefully that will turn out okay, I read on the internet all sorts of things to do when you grow cantalope, like put a board under the melon as it grows so it won't rot. Sounds like alot of work to me, but I am willing to give it a try. Oh, and with the jalapenos I am going to try to make pepper jelly. All my peeps tell me it is easy, just get some sure- jell (not sure how to spell) since I have never bought the stuff.. I am anxious to give it a try. I could be a canning mama by the end of this summer.  Below is a picture of my bell peppers,

My poor dad, who did 90% of the work to get this thing rolling has not even been able to swing by the house to check on his farming skills in almost 3 weeks, he is working like crazy because of the Hail Storm that is a blessing for my family, and such a disaster for others. (Remember my family owns a Roofing Company) So, anyways... this is one thing among many things I have been doing.
